**Role Overview**
We're seeking a Product Design Manager with a flair for crafting compelling UX visions and leading high-performing teams to innovate within our meal subscription app space.
You'll be the driving force behind a design strategy that stands out, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and rapid iteration. This role is perfect for a creative leader eager to shape the future of meal subscription experiences.
The role is a mix of People Management + IC work but will skew more toward management over time.
**Main Responsibilities**
**Vision and Product Design Direction**:
- Craft and communicate a compelling UX vision that aligns with the startup’s strategic goals, making sure the product stands out in the crowd.
- Serve as the design evangelist, promoting design thinking across all departments to ensure a unified and innovative approach to product development.
- Embed user-centric principles throughout the product lifecycle, driving continuous innovation and ensuring the product meets market needs and user expectations.
**Team Development and Management**:
- Build and mentor a kickass design team; recruit talent, set the bar high, and foster a culture of feedback, creativity, and growth.
- Champion a collaborative work environment, breaking down silos and ensuring the design team works seamlessly with engineering, product, and other teams.
- Keep the team motivated and on-track, using agile and lean methodologies to adapt quickly and efficiently to changes.
**Execution Excellence and Innovation**:
- Oversee the design process from ideation to launch, ensuring projects are delivered with flair, on time, and above expectations.
- Encourage a culture of innovation within the team, pushing for solutions that are not just good but groundbreaking.
- Implement and refine design processes and tools to boost productivity, creativity, and the ability to scale rapidly in a fast-paced startup environment.
- ** B2C Experience**: You’ve significantly contributed to the success of a widely-used consumer mobile app, preferably within the subscription product space. Your work showcases a deep understanding of user engagement, retention strategies, and the unique challenges and opportunities of subscription-based models.
- ** Leadership Vibes**: You've got at least 3+ years of experience leading and nurturing a team of UX wizards. You're all about empowering your team, giving them tough love, fostering a creative atmosphere, and guiding them through the design journey.

You will play a key role making open source software available to the world. Our Design function ensures the experience of the software and infrastructure we build is true to our intentions, and delivers the tools our community and customers need. The Design System UX designer makes that possible by defining, evolving and advocating for a consistent use of design system that scales across our products.
This role sits in the design system team reporting to Design Systems Management
Location: This role will be based remotely in the EMEA region.
The role entails
- Building and evolving Canonical's design system, ensuring measurable adoption, consistency, scalability and accessibility across our products
- Collaborating with designers, engineers and stakeholders to translate user needs and brand principles into reusable components, patterns and guidelines
- Championing design system best practices, advocating for cohesive user experience and design, providing documentation and support for cross-functional teams
- Designing and documenting UI components, design tokens and interaction patterns
- Ensuring timely and efficient delivery of the roadmap
- Enabling alignment on design system usage and governance across teams
- Advocating for accessibility, performance, and scalability in design system decisions and iterating based on data and technological advancements
- Staying ahead of industry trends, ensuring innovation and balancing it with system coherence and performance
- Relevant experience in UX/product design, with a strong focus on design systems in complex environments
- A portfolio demonstrating strong expertise in design systems, including component libraries, documentation and handling complex environments
- Exceptional educational achievements in design or related behavioral science discipline
- Expertise in Figma, Storybook and design token workflows
- Experience of collaborating with engineers and bridging design and code

In this immersive educational experience, students engage in the user experience design process, developing the skills and portfolio of a junior practitioner. We are looking for instructors to lead this transformative experience through General Assembly’s User Experience Design Immersive course. This role is a full-time, temporary position that includes a start and end date for this cohort. There may be potential to receive an additional assignment offering, but additional assignments are not guaranteed.
