We are expanding our in-house legal team, creating an opportunity for an exceptional recent graduate as junior Legal Advisor or junior Legal Counsel. The successful candidate will be a rigorous and effective practitioner with a track record of academic achievement and social engagement. At Canonical they will have the opportunity to work on a variety of transactional matters in the technology and enterprise software realm, as well as the contracts that underpin global employment, contracting and partnerships. In this appointment we are more focused on ability than experience; the position is open to applicants with a relevant degree, but does not have a requirement for extensive work experience. The successful candidate will work closely with our in-house legal team and colleagues worldwide.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate good commercial judgment as well as being organized, efficient, and capable to provide high quality legal and commercial advice. We are looking for a rigorous work ethic, detailed analysis, conscientiousness, and the ambition to identify opportunities for improvement.
Location : This role is home based in Europe, the Middle East, Africa or the Americas, with the option of our London office.
The role entails
- Report to our global general counsel
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts with customers and vendors in many countries across the globe
- Provide legal support to various internal clients across the company, including Canonical's sales organization
- Interface with cross-functional teams to support company initiatives
- Utilize Canonical's contract management system to ensure accurate data is maintained for signed contracts
- Work with local counsel in many countries to seek and implement advice
- An exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
- A degree in law, JD or equivalent, and active license to practice law or current progress towards that
- Drive and a track record of going above-and-beyond expectations

Role overview
We are seeking a dynamic and hands-on Legal Counsel to handle the Company’s legal requirements in Bahrain and collaborate with the legal team across other companies within the group. This is a stand-alone role, however, will be part of a larger legal team spread across 13 jurisdictions and growing. The Legal Counsel will need to have hands on experience in financial regulations, commercial contracting, digital payments, and cross-border legal frameworks. The role reports to the Group’s Chief Legal Officer and to the CEO of Pay10 Bahrain.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Corporate Advisory:
- Provide legal support on to the Company regarding its corporate requirements relating to its operations.
- Main corporate records of the Company and keep them to up to date.
- Managing corporate service providers
2. Regulatory & Compliance Oversight
- Maintain the licensing records up to date and liaise with the relevant teams on updating the relevant license.
- Collaborate with compliance and risk management teams to strengthen governance and internal controls of the Company in Bahrain.
3. Contracts & Commercial Law
- Draft, negotiate, and review high-value contracts, including client agreements, technology licensing, partnerships, and vendor arrangements.
- Ensure contracts are commercially sound, legally enforceable, and aligned with Bahrain regulations and business risk appetite.
4. Corporate Governance & Transactions
- Support the Chief Legal Officer in maintaining the Company’s corporate governance framework including drafting board resolutions, minutes of meetings, shareholder meetings, and corporate secretarial functions.
5. Litigation & Risk Management
- Manage disputes, litigation, regulatory investigations, and coordinate with external counsel as necessary under the guidance of the Chief Legal Officer.
- Establish and deliver internal training programs to promote legal awareness and reduce operational risks.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of legal experience in fintech, banking, payments, technology, e-commenrce, or tech-adjacent sectors. GCC experience is a must.
- Licensed to practice law in a common law jurisdiction (UK, US, or equivalent).
- Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory environments for financial services, e-money, and payment solutions in the Bahrain.
- Team player with excellent stakeholder engagement, commercial negotiation, and organizational skills.
- Business-oriented mindset with the ability to balance a diverse task list.

- Excellent knowledge of anti-money laundering regulations, the Central Bank of Bahrain's Rulebook and associated E-money Regulations within the banking/financial services industry.
- Ability to distil and discern important information from regulatory guidance, statutes and regulations, audit findings, and other documents and determine how it impacts the business.
- Must be able to perform independently and with minimal supervision.
- Strong organisational skills – must be multi-tasked oriented and able to balance pressure and deadlines with constantly changing priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to prioritise workload in line with tight deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
- Excellent written communication – business and project reports.
- Experience interacting with local regulators a plus.
- CAMS certification, or willingness to obtain, preferred.
- Knowledge of digital assets and fintech products is preferred.
- Ability to work within a matrixed environment and cross functionally with operations and technology functions from scratch alongside with a talented team.
