Job Description
Our client is seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Lead Electrical Safety Engineer to join their engineering department in a fully remote capacity. This critical role focuses on ensuring the electrical safety and compliance of products and systems throughout their design, development, and manufacturing lifecycle. You will be responsible for developing and implementing robust electrical safety strategies, conducting rigorous risk assessments, and ensuring adherence to international safety standards and regulations. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles, safety standards (such as IEC, UL, CSA), and hazard analysis techniques.
Key responsibilities include performing electrical safety reviews of designs, identifying potential hazards, and recommending appropriate mitigation measures. You will develop and execute comprehensive test plans to verify compliance with relevant safety standards, including dielectric strength, insulation resistance, grounding, and overcurrent protection testing. This role involves collaborating closely with design engineers, product managers, and external certification bodies to achieve product approvals and maintain compliance. You will also be responsible for staying updated on evolving safety standards and regulations and implementing necessary changes within the company's processes.
The Lead Electrical Safety Engineer will mentor and guide junior engineers on electrical safety best practices, fostering a culture of safety awareness throughout the organization. You will manage safety-related projects, ensuring timely completion and effective resolution of identified issues. The ability to conduct root cause analysis for electrical safety incidents and implement corrective actions is essential. This position demands excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with a strong emphasis on clear and concise documentation and reporting for a remote team and stakeholders.
Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus. Minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical engineering, with a significant focus on product safety and compliance. Proven expertise in electrical safety standards and methodologies. Experience with safety testing procedures and equipment. Strong understanding of risk assessment techniques (e.g., FMEA, HAZOP). Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to lead projects and mentor teams remotely. Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reports and presentations. Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent are highly desirable.
