Responsibilities:
- Lead the process of resource and reserve estimation using geostatistical methods and specialized software.
- Develop detailed mine plans, including open pit or underground designs, optimizing for resource recovery and economic viability.
- Conduct feasibility studies, cost estimations, and risk assessments for new mining projects and expansions.
- Prepare mine design documentation, including pit slopes, haul roads, ventilation systems, and infrastructure layouts.
- Collaborate closely with geologists, metallurgists, and environmental scientists to ensure integrated project planning.
- Oversee the selection and implementation of mining equipment and technologies.
- Ensure all mine plans and operations comply with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
- Monitor mine performance against planned targets and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior mining engineers and technical staff.
- Stay current with advancements in mining engineering software, geostatistics, and mining technologies.
- Contribute to the development of operational budgets and manage project timelines and resources.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and contractors.
- Conduct site visits for project oversight and assessment as required, balancing with remote work capabilities.
- Champion a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement within the mining operations.
- Evaluate the economic impact of various mining strategies and scenarios.
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a closely related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in mining engineering, with a strong focus on resource estimation and mine planning.
- Proven expertise in geostatistical software (e.g., Leapfrog Geo, Vulcan, Surpac) for resource modeling.
- Strong understanding of open pit and/or underground mining methods, depending on company focus.
- Experience in mine design, planning software, and production scheduling.
- Familiarity with mine economics and feasibility study preparation.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead technical discussions and manage remote teams.
- Proficiency in relevant mining simulation and CAD software.
- Knowledge of relevant safety and environmental regulations in mining.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fully remote environment.
