Responsibility:

  1. Handle tax compliance related inquiries on daily basis, and provide tax compliance solutions;
  2. Responsible for daily invoice operation and management, follow up on the implementation of invoicing solution, and optimize the processes of invoice issuance and verification;
  3. Responsible for tax filing and compliance management of all types of taxes;

We are looking for candidates to join our growing Tax Team in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The right candidate(s) will be based in Bahrain but have responsibilities too in KSA's Eastern Province/Khobar, across the causeway. Specifically we are searching for a tax manager to join our Middle East Indirect Tax Practice – Indirect Taxes for us cover Value Added Tax, Customs Duty, Excise Tax and Real Estate Transaction Tax as well as electronic invoicing. The candidate we need should also have some experience in Bahrain's new Domestic Minimum Top-Up Tax, and be prepared to do work across both Indirect and Direct Taxes.

Role
The role primarily involves advisory, compliance and disputes work in Tax covering not only Bahrain, but also extends across the Middle East (including in particular Indirect Taxes in the Gulf Co-operative Council Region – KSA, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the UAE). This is an exciting time for those who choose to become Tax specialists in the Middle East - e-Invoicing, VAT, Excise Tax, Customs Duty and RETT is coming to many countries and already implemented in a number.

The manager role requires at least four years of experience in Indirect Tax, working in an in-house finance function, at a tax authority or for a consultancy firm

Tax Manager Attributes
Indirect Tax (VAT, Excise Tax, RETT and/or Customs Duty) work experience. Good working knowledge of GCC VAT Framework, KSA VAT, Bahrain VAT or similar Indirect Tax system

  • Some experience of Bahrain DMTT work, or Corporate Income Tax/Withholding Tax/Direct Tax projects
  • Track record in writing advice, memos, letters and emails on Indirect Tax matters
  • Practical experience of application of technical Indirect Tax rules and regulations
  • Managerial experience in running a small team, working both in the office and remotely
  • Tax authority, general finance, accounting or consulting/accounting firm experience of at least four years
  • Experience of appeals, objections and challenges to tax authority positions would be an advantage (but not a must-have) in Bahrain and / or elsewhere.

Your Key Responsibilities
Client responsibilities

You are expected to work effectively as a member of a worldwide network of professional advisors, sharing responsibility, providing support, maintaining communication and updating senior team members on progress. You must also collaborate with a team of VAT professionals to combine diverse cross-border transaction experience with local tax knowledge across a broad spectrum of industries. Participating and assisting in preparing for meetings with management teams will be part of your role.

You will be assisting in preparing reports and schedules that will be delivered to clients and other parties. You will also develop and maintain productive working relationships with client personnel and build strong internal relationships within the VAT practice, Indirect Tax and across other service lines.

Technical responsibilities

You must build a deep understanding of the Customs Law and its practical application across the countries. You are expected to understand and apply the regional Free Trade Agreements and key customs concepts such as valuation, classification and origin. You will be identifying and discussing VAT considerations for clients to be aware of in their outbound investments. Engaging with colleagues in overseas offices to deliver VAT advice in respect of global jurisdictions will be part of your responsibilities. You will also prepare for the potential introduction of VAT in the different countries and to discuss with clients how this may impact them as well as work with internal teams to provide indirect tax expertise for audit and transaction projects.

Skills And Attributes For Success
You must be able to build strong client relationships & excellently communicate in a range of situations in both written and oral English. You should also be able to identify areas of risk, carry out an effective review and know when to refer upwards. You are expected to be a client focused and commercially aware team player with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels. You must also possess project management skills, plan and prioritise work, meet deadlines, monitor own budget. You should also be able to solve problems creatively and pragmatically.

To qualify for the role you must have

  • A degree in economics, finance, tax or accounting
  • A relevant Masters degree, CPA or ACA/CA/CPA/CMA/SOCPA/Law qualification/CTA or equivalent tax qualification
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience as Indirect Tax professional
  • Experience working for a Big 4 accounting firm is preferred. However, we will consider candidates with from law firms or with relevant industry experience
  • Customs duty advisory experience is preferable, but we will also consider candidates with VAT/GST advisory experience

Requirements
Experience and Qualifications:

  • Professionally qualified - Chartered Accountant/CFA preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of work experience in ALCM/Treasury and Finance and overall post qualification experience of 9 years.
  • Proven leadership skills to provide oversight of and development of teams.
  • Strong knowledge of HSBC Group and products preferred.

Our client is seeking a highly knowledgeable and experienced Senior Tax Accountant to join their finance team, serving both their Hamad Town and other regional offices. This role is integral to ensuring tax compliance, identifying tax planning opportunities, and providing expert advice on complex tax matters. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of local and international tax laws, excellent analytical skills, and a commitment to accuracy.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and file all corporate tax returns accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Conduct tax research and analysis to identify potential tax savings opportunities and advise on tax planning strategies.
  • Provide expert guidance on the tax implications of business transactions, investments, and strategic decisions.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in tax legislation and regulations, assessing their impact on the company.
  • Respond to inquiries from tax authorities and represent the company during tax audits.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of tax policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to gather necessary information for tax filings and analysis.
  • Review financial statements and accounting records for tax-related accuracy.
  • Support the accounting team with tax-related entries and reconciliations.
  • Develop and deliver tax training to relevant staff members.
  • Manage relationships with external tax advisors as needed.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all tax positions and strategies.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA, CMA, or a recognized tax qualification is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in corporate tax accounting.
  • In-depth knowledge of local and international tax laws and regulations.
  • Proven experience in tax return preparation, tax research, and tax planning.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent understanding of accounting principles and financial statements.
  • Proficiency in tax preparation software and accounting systems.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax issues clearly.
  • High level of integrity and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
